Football: NIJ loses to LASPOTECH

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism football team conceded two nil to the Lagos State Polytechnic in a friendly match at the state polytechnic on Monday.

The visitors conceded the first goal in the 7th minute of the game from the penalty spot courtesy midfielder Adedayo Adewale.

Animasaun Ibrahim sealed the game for the hosts from a defensive error committed by the NIJ defenders in the 81st minute.

The Rector of LASPOTECH, Sogunro Samuel, in an interview after the match, expressed gratitude to the players and also stressed that the result wasn’t satisfactory enough.

He said, “They tried but they have not gotten there yet. I expected more from them. I have been in the sports committee since 1994, and I recall a particular squad we had then that defeated YABATECH in the final of certain NIPOGA competition.”

“I have spoken to the Chairman Sports and Games Committee and I hope to see an improvement in subsequent games.”

The Coach of the team, Lateef Ishola, said that the team’s performance is below expectations, judging from the training and instruction given to them.
