200 Pharmacies shut down annually in Nigeria - Agbaje
Lagos-based Pharmacist and lawyer, Jimi Agbaje has disclosed
that about 200 pharmacies are shut down in Nigeria annually, due to the
ineffectiveness of such pharmacies.
Agbaje, who made this statement at the launching ceremony of
the Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy and monitoring programme for young pharmacists,
said the programme is designed to motivate, encourage and train young
pharmacists who will be the next generation of pharmacists in Nigeria.
Also speaking at the event, ex-minister of health and
President, Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy, Prince Julius Adelusi – Adeluyi, charged
young pharmacists not to be carried away by social media activities but understand
the basis and foundation of the profession in order to be respected in the
society.
Adeluyi, however, advised them to update their knowledge
through research so as to strike a balance between the professional environment
as well as the society at large.
The event had in attendance President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Ahmed Yakassai; Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, amongst others.
